Ask the Wag - FAQs

What is required for my dog to become a client?

A FREE initial screening is required for all dogs prior to becoming a member of the resort. This can be done by calling 865-738-3493 for an appointment.
This interview/screening only takes about 10-15 minutes.

What vaccinations are required for my dog?

All dogs must be current on vaccinations. Dogs must also have the Bordatella kennel cough vaccine. Records can be faxed by your vet to our office.

Does my dog need to be spayed or neutered?

Yes. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.

Does my dog need to be socialized before coming to Dog World Resort?

No, but your dog must be open to being socialized with other dogs. All dogs must be in good health and nonaggressive. The safety of all our guests and employees must be considered. We reserve the right to dismiss any pet from daycare or boarding should they show aggression or threatening behavior at any time.

Does my dog need to be on a flea treatment?

All dogs must be on a topical form of medication for fleas and ticks. Because we spend so much time outside, a flea collar or spray will not suffice. If we find fleas on your dog, we will be happy to treat  him or her and add the cost to your bill.

What is done to ensure my dog's safety?

Your pet's safety is always our first concern. Be assured that one of our trained resort counselors will always be present, whether they are inside or outside. We will also have a professional staff member on duty 24 hours a day, so your pet will never be left alone, even at night. This is what allows us to offer kennel-free boarding and also enable you to pick up your pet from boarding 24 hours a day.

Cleanliness will always be an issue with us and all "accidents" will be cleaned up immediately and the floors will be washed down every single night. and equipment will also be cleaned with a pet-safe cleaner. We take the health of our clients very seriously and will ensure that all our resort counselors practice excellent hygiene at all times.

Will my dog have access to an outside area?

Yes, we have 10,000 sq feet of outside yard for the dogs to run and play. DogWorldResort has play equipment, toys and pools to keep your pooches happy and occupied.

What can I bring to make my dog feel more comfortable?

While we provide beds, food and toys, you are welcome to bring anything you like to make your pet feel more comfortable – his or her crate, blanket, food, etc. Please note that all toys and treats such as bones will be left in their personal space – crate or suite – to avoid any food or toy aggression behavior and they will have access to it during bedtime.

How much time do they spend in their crate or suite?

Only at bedtime and one hour nap time after lunch. The rest of the time they are playing with their canine friends and our counselors.

What kind of training has your staff had?

We are Pet First Aid certified and our resort counselors are trained in first aid and CPR for your pet's safety.

Will my small dog be placed with large dogs?

All dogs are placed in their respective playgroups based on temperament as well as size. Our goal is to ensure the safety and well being of all our clients, and we spend a great deal of time ensuring that our playgroups are well suited in size and temperament. Elderly and special needs guests are in a seperate area unless your wishes are different as we do have elderly and special needs guests who do well in groups.

Can I play with my dog at the Resort?

Insurance regulations prohibit clients from being in play areas when dogs are present. If you would like some time with your pooch, we will do our best to arrange a private place for you. However, we cannot guarantee this when we are at capacity. You may always observe them at play, however, outside the play areas.
